Airbag backpacks help to significantly reduce the chances of the wearer being completely submerged during an avalanche.
One pull of the cord during an avalanche, and the airbag will quickly inflate. This in turns drastically increased your surface area and therefore helps to bring you to the surface of the snow, where you should be easily seen. Riding on the surface of the snow also helps to drastically reduce the chances of injuries.
But you must remember to test your ABS backpack, to be sure that it is in good working condition.
